Honey Extraction

Recently, I extracted honey for the first time. My friend, Jan, who "owns" the bees, came over to help with the initial phase. We removed all the frames from the hive (well, at least the ones that we could safely remove honey from - you have to leave enough honey for the bees to eat during the winter when they can't forage) in a few hours. After that, I think I spent a total of 14 hours spinning the honey out of the frames using a hand-crank centrifuge. We extracted over 8 gallons of honey. It's the sweetest honey I've ever tasted.
